We have been serving the Veterans of Nutley and the surrounding communities since 1919.

We are located at 45 Franklin Ave with our main entrance in the parking lot just behind Jerry Jones Ultimate Martial Arts School.
We currently have over 200 members with room to grow.
Our mission is to promote activities in 4 key service areas;
« Ensuring a strong national security position for America,
« Taking care of America’s veterans and their families,
« Mentoring and supporting America’s children and youth, and
« Promoting patriotism and honor.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTSMust have served at least one day of active military duty during one of the dates below and have been honorably discharged or still serving honorably. :
April 6, 1917 -November 11, 1918 World War I
December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946 World War II
June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955 Korean War
February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975 Vietnam War
August 24, 1982 - July 31,1984 Lebanon/Grenada
December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990 Just Cause
August 2, 1990 - Today* Operation Desert Shield/Storm
Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities.
NEW MEMBERS
1. Complete an American Legion Membership application (see below). Applications are also available at the Post.)
2. INCLUDE A COPY OF YOUR DD214 OR DISCHARGE
3. Mail these to us at 45 Franklin Ave., Nutley, NJ 07110 along with a check for your $30 dues payable to “AL Post 70”.
4. If the information is correct, membership will be approved and then a membership card will be mailed to you.

b. COPY OF DD214 OR DISCHARGE
c. Copy of your membership card

In addition, female relations of those eligible for Legion membership may join our Ladies Auxiliary (Unit 70) while male descendants of those eligible for Legion membership may join our Sons of the American Legion (Squadron 70).

We hold our Post 70 general membership meeting on the 1st Thursday of each month beginning at 8PM in the meeting room of our building at 45 Franklin Ave.
Unit 70, the Auxiliary, holds its general membership meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month beginng at 8PM in the meeting room of our building at 45 Franklin Ave.
Squadron 70, Sons of the American Legion, hold their meetings in the meeting room of our building at 45 Franklin Ave.
On the 4th Monday of every month we sponsor a trip to the East Orange Veterans Hospital to host a Bingo event for the veteran patients in a locked down ward.
Our Post Lounge is open Monday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:30PM until 2AM. The lounge is also open on selected Sundays for special sporting events Perspective members are welcome.

Commander - Henry P. DelTosto - Henry served in the US Army and US Army Reserve from 1971 util 1988. His Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training were conducted at Ft. Jackson, SC. After serving as Company Clerk for the 303rd Civil Affairs Group he was selected for Officer Candidate School. Henry then served in various assignments. His final assignment was with G3 (Plans, Operations, and Training) at Headquarters, 78th Division (Tng). Henry has been a member of the American Legion and Post 70 since 2001 and lives in Kearny, NJ with his wife, Lynne who is an Auxiliary officer.
1st Vice Commander - Harry Bottino - Harry served in the United States Army from 1964 - 1967 as a Company Clerk, and departed an E5. He is married to Ruth (an active Auxiliary member) and has two sons, Marc (our SAL Commander) and Kevin (an active member of the USAF stationed in Colorado with his wife Elvia and their three children). Harry has been a Legionnaire for 20 years and held many post positions including Commander. He is currently our esteemed Bar Chairman!
2nd Vice Commander - Andy Vyniski - Andy Vyniski, a 15 year member of the Post and our 2nd Vice Commander. He was born in Newark in 1942 and currently lives in Nutley with his wife of 40 years, “Ginny” who is active in our Auxiliary. Andy has 2 children and 3 grandchildren and is currently employed as a machinist with Intercity Tire. When he’s not working he likes to collect military memorabilia and artifacts. A US Navy veteran, he served on the Terrebonne Parish (LST-1156) a tank landing ship. Andy is also a 30 year member of the VFW where he has been Post Commander three times and has just finished a tour as District 4 Commander.
Adjutant - Richard McClintick - Rich was a member of the United States Navy for four years as a Tin Can Sailor. He is the husband of Barbara McClintick (an active Auxiliary member) and has four children, and four grand-children. Rich has been a member of the post since 1990, served as Commander for 4 years, Adjutant for 2 years, and has been our Chaplain for 12 years. Rich has also been a member of the Nutley Volunteer Rescue Squad for a dedicated 42 years!
Finance Officer - Jennifer Gentles - Mrs. Gentles (Kozielski) was a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1990 to 1994 as a MIMMS Clerk, and departed an E4. She served in Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan and Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC. She is the wife of Douglas Gentles (SAL member), mother of Giacamo (SAL member) and Violet (a future Auxiliary). She is also currently serving as the Membership Chairman for Post 70 and website designer.
Service Officer - Henry DelTosto (see Commander)
Sgt at Arms - Walt McDonald - Wally was a member of the United States Navy for four years as an engine man on a diesel aircraft carrier. He is married with two daughters and three grand-children. He has been a member of the post since 1990 and Sgt at Arms for 16 years. Also a member of the Nutley Volunteer Rescue Squad, he has served the town for 35 years.
